The Supreme Council for the Family and the Child Protection Office in the Ministry of Health responded to a complaint filed by the grandmother of two girls whose mother beat and frightened them, according to an Arab daily. The report which was filed on 6 November to the Protection Office concerned a citizen’s assault on her 4-year-old and 7-year-old daughters. The report added that the suspect had threatened to burn her children if the abuse was exposed.
The Minister of Women and Childhood Affairs, Mai Al-Baghli, revealed that she was following up on the incident and its circumstances, directing the Secretariat of the Family Affairs Council to immediately communicate on the case and take the necessary legal measures on the incident in cooperation with the concerned authorities in the country. Al-Baghli announced the formation of a rapid intervention team, to monitor cases of abuse and violence against children, and to seek the assistance of all expertise and energies through the psychological rehabilitation program.
As with the case of the two girls, the Child Protection Office confirmed that it has already submitted a report to the Juvenile Protection Department to follow up on the legal issues. The office stated that a specialized team assessed and followed-up the victims’ condition in the hospital. Moreover, the Family Council is sheltering two cases of domestic violence, providing them with psychological and health services and protection through the Fener Listening Center.
