British Ambassador, H.E Belinda Lewis said Saturday May 6 will be very eventful not only in London but throughout the United Kingdom, and called the inauguration of King Charles III a historic event, as it is the first coronation in nearly 70 years which is happening after the coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth in 1953.

The British envoy, in a brief statement to Al-Rai, said His Majesty King Charles III announced that Monday, May 8, will be a national holiday and the coronation ceremony begins today at 11 am, and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad will attend this coronation with Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Al-Sabah at Westminster Abbey, and noted that King Charles, who will be crowned along with his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, will become the 40th king to be crowned since 1066.

She explained the official ceremonies begin with a procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, where the general public was allowed to enter the procession viewing areas at six in the morning, as the procession starts from Buckingham Palace and walks through “The Mall” towards Trafalgar Square, then Whitehall Road and Parliament Street, and arrives at the great west door of Westminster Abbey.

Regarding the British Embassy’s celebration of this occasion, Lewis said, “We have many events lined up for Saturday and Sunday, as we will start on Saturday by broadcasting the coronation ceremony directly through large screens at one o’clock in the afternoon, and then we will hold a reception for the dignitaries on Saturday evening, and on Sunday we will hold a party in the embassy’s garden.” It’s like street parties with a lot of flags decorated to enjoy some British food,” expressing the hope that you will be able to go out to see the decoration of the Kuwait Towers on this occasion.

Ambassador Lewis described “the relationship of the two ruling families in the two countries as very strong for decades,” expressing her happiness with the participation of His Highness the Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal in the coronation ceremony, since he attended a special reception for the King at Buckingham Palace, Friday, before the coronation, noting that there are many mutual visits between the leaderships of the two countries, as King Charles has visited Kuwait 8 times in the past.

She added that the bilateral relations between the two countries are very strong in various cultural, social and economic fields, pointing out that her country hosts thousands of Kuwaiti tourists annually, in addition to thousands of Kuwaiti students studying in British universities, with many of them owning homes in the UK, in addition to investments.
