The Kuwait Municipality services sector held a meeting today with the general hygiene departments in all governorates branches, to discuss the issue of what the Municipality called ‘scattered’ numbers of cleaning workers in schools.

The Municipality sources told a local Arabic daily, that “the cleaning contracts concluded with the Municipality do not allow company workers to be inside government buildings and facilities and perform any additional tasks, and the terms of the contracts do not allow companies to work for two parties at the same time, and therefore cleaning schools is not part of the terms of the contract.”

The sources explained “the number of cleaners is specified in each contract, and they are distributed according to a specific plan under the supervision of the company and the Municipality, and if there is any default, the company will be held accountable immediately.”

The sources stressed “The Municipality will hold the cleaning companies that allowed their workers to clean some schools, without referring to the concerned administration, accountable, and the Ministry of Education will be addressed to ascertain if it was an individual act by some schools by attracting workers from the street to clean the classrooms and play areas, especially since this matter is considered a ‘beggary’ that the Municipality has been struggling with for years.”
