The Director of the Safety Department at the Kuwait Municipality Hawalli Governorate branch Al-Hamidi Al-Mutairi said there is an intention to force contractors of buildings to acquire safety licenses from the Municipality and the same applies to warehousing and building renovations.

Al-Mutairi stressed, during a field tour of the Al-Zahra area, to ensure the availability of licenses and safety regulations in the construction and building renovation sites within the private housing, stressed on the need for the property owner to set conditions for the contractor and that all licenses issued by the Municipality should be clearly displayed at the construction site and the contractor must not leave them in his vehicle or somewhere else.

He indicated “the administration goal is to ensure the extent to which workers and contractors adhere to safety controls and requirements,” explaining that “the imposition of fines is not a goal, but the purpose of the tours is guidance and warning,” while emphasizing the rarity of those who fail to adhere to the instructions issued by the municipality, especially after their repeated warnings.

Al-Mutairi pointed out several people in the past have fallen to their deaths due to lapse in safety conditions at construction sites and added, the primary goal is the safety of construction workers.
