Ministry of Public Works and Public Authority for Housing Welfare will respond to a request from the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) to provide the names of companies involved in poor quality roadwork that resulted in flooding and other mishaps following rains last year.
For their part, the four companies involved in the shoddy work have requested the Ministry of Public Works and Public Authority for Housing Welfare to reinstate them after the ministry suspended them from participating in any further projects. The companies said that they had rectified the shortcomings noticed in their work and made the necessary repairs to the road infrastructure as demanded by the ministry.
Following a meeting with senior officials of the ministry, the Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Jenan Al-Bushehri said that she would respond to the request from CAPT and provide the names of the four companies involved in the road projects.
In a related note, the Minister of Public Works has announced that the Public Authority for Roads Transport has completed the work of building trenches to collect rainwater in the residential city of Sabah Al-Ahmad.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the State Audit Bureau has raised questions about why the Ministry of Public Works awarded Tender No.403 for the Maintenance of Highways to the company which provided the second lowest bid, while rejecting the offer made by the lowest bidder.
