Authorities arrested an Indian lab technician yesterday evening for issuing forged PCR certificates for KD 30 per certificate, without conducting a test to ensure the patient was negative, Al Qabas reported. The 51-year-old forger, working in a private laboratory in Farwaniya Governorate, took KD6 as his commission while the remaining KD 24 went to the clinic.

On being interrogated, he confessed to his crime, and revealed that he had issued about 60 forged PCR certificates to several people whose details he kept. His confessions were documented and referred to the Public Prosecution.

A security source told Al-Qabas that all those who have had dealings with the accused have been located, as it was found that the majority of them are outside the country, and noted that the expats who obtained forged Coronavirus test certificates will be arrested upon their return to the country.

The source added that some of those who dealt with the accused requested certificates proving they were infected with the coronavirus to use for personal matters.

The source explained that there is confidential information that reached the Al-Ahmadi investigation men about the accused’s business of producing fake pcr certificates claiming the owner was free from the Coronavirus without his presence at his private clinic.

The accused was monitored over five days to gather evidence of his crime, and was arrested in possession of certificates ready for sale. His mobile phone was examined and all of his clients were traced.
