Informed sources said the Ministry of Health requested the purchase of injectable drugs for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the Al-Sabah and Al-Adan hospitals. The medicine costs a total of USD 3.5 million, which is equivalent to more than one million dinars, an Arab daily reported.
The Central Agency for Public Tenders for Health has approved the request to contract by direct order based on Article 18 of the Public Tenders Law, upon obtaining approvals from the regulatory authorities. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a genetic disease that leads to rapid muscle atrophy, and it is one of the rare diseases.
