The Ministry of Health has affirmed that a majority of countries worldwide are grappling with a scarcity of medicines due to several factors. Among these, the most crucial is the disruption of the global supply chain, a shortfall in raw materials, and the repercussions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

During a session with the Parliamentary Health and Social Affairs Committee, which was attended by Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi, the Ministry stated that the current situation within the health system is not primarily marked by a shortage, but rather by a deficiency in the global supply, driven by global circumstances, reports Al-Rai daily.

The Ministry underscored its commitment to expending all possible efforts to surmount obstacles, thereby reinforcing pharmaceutical security and devising swift, short-term action plans as well as enduring solutions to prevent any shortcomings in the future.

To achieve this, the Ministry sought an exemption from the tender regulations to establish amplified collaborations with pharmaceutical suppliers through increased contracting, ensuring the fulfillment of all associated needs.

In response, the Kuwait Medical Association, an active participant in the meeting, advocated for the activation and expansion of supervisory responsibilities over drug suppliers and distributors. They also emphasized the need for more stringent penalties for those found tampering with drug security.
