The Ministry of Health, as part of its efforts to develop the level of health care in public hospitals and specialized centers, and to fill any deficiencies with regard to medicines, medical supplies and equipment, has finally got the nod from the regulatory authorities to purchase medicines for cancer treatment and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), worth about 1.4 million dinars.

Health sources told Al-Qabas that the Ministry of Health has received the necessary regulatory approvals to sign a contract for the purchase of “injections” to treat “AIDS” in hospitals at a cost of 1.180 million dinars.

The sources indicated that the ministry also obtained approvals for a direct contract to purchase injections to treat cancer patients at the Hussein Makki Jumaa Center for Specialized Surgery, at 252,000 dinars, while the Central Agency for Public Tenders postponed a decision related to signing a contract to buy drugs to treat fungal infections believed to be worth 1.1 million dinars and to provide the center with all the medicines prescribed for patients according to the treatment protocols specified for them by the medical staff.

The health sources added that the decision to approve a bid to purchase 63 items used as medical supplies for nerve and spine surgery at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital was also postponed.

The sources stated that the approvals included proposing practices related to the supply of medical devices for the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Jaber Hospital, devices and accessories for the anesthesiology and intensive care departments in Al-Adan Hospital, and devices for the ear, nose and throat departments in Jaber Hospital.

1.4 million dinars total contracts for the purchase of AIDS and cancer drugs

1.1 million dinars to purchase injections to treat AIDS in public hospitals

252,000 dinars to buy injections for cancer patients in the Hussein Makki Jumaa hospital

231,000 dinars for the purchase of consumables for medical equipment in laboratories

91,000 dinars for the tender for maintenance of network equipment at Jaber Hospital

1.1 million dinars for medicines that treat fungal infections have been postponed citing oversight
