Around 38 employees of the Ministry of Health (MoH) are said to be under investigation by the Forgery and Counterfeiting Sector of the Criminal Investigation Department, after the ministry accused them of tampering with the fingerprint system and faking attendance to obtain financial benefits of over KD200,000.

Those found guilty will be referred to the Public Prosecution for initiating legal procedures against them and ordering them to refund the money obtained through their fraud. Initial investigations reveal that the employees had used a fake fingerprint machine brought from an Asian country to manipulate the attendance records.

The fingerprint machines used in Kuwait are equipped with cameras that record an image of the employee when they use the machine to verify their fingerprint. The fraud was revealed when the cameras recorded someone else giving attendance on behalf of the staff. Most of the employees found to have engaged in the fraud were administrative staff.
