The Ministry of Communications has initiated a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing and modernizing its services. This strategic overhaul encompasses a revamp of the postal sector as well as substantial investments in the telecommunications field.
According to a recent report, a copy of which is obtained by Al-Qabas daily, the ministry has meticulously formulated a blueprint for advancing the telecommunications domain.
This entails partnering with a professional consulting entity in coordination with the Agency for Partnership Projects between the public and private sectors.
The primary focus of this partnership is to craft an in-depth study geared towards establishing a state-owned enterprise dedicated to delivering cutting-edge telephone and digital communication services. This initiative aligns with the latest service methodologies, accompanied by a simultaneous enhancement of the transportation infrastructure network.
Turning attention to the restructuring of the postal sector, the Ministry underscored its commitment to elevating the quality and scope of postal services provided. In this pursuit, a comprehensive two-pronged strategy has been devised, addressing both immediate and long-term aspirations to invigorate this pivotal sector.
The immediate strategy for postal sector development centers on initiating a public tender for the handling of express mail parcels and postal packages. This entails pre-customs clearance, delivery, distribution, and transportation services.
The Ministry’s focus also extends to a groundbreaking transformation of postal services. This innovative approach aims to provide a delivery service for postal shipments directly to recipients following clearance and customs processing, at a nominal fee for the delivery service.
In the long term, the Ministry envisions establishing a fully state-owned commercial entity known as the “Kuwait Post Company.” This enterprise is set to replace the existing postal sector, heralding a complete metamorphosis and comprehensive evolution of government postal operations. This ambitious undertaking is poised to catalyze the holistic development and refinement of services within the sector.
