The preparation for the annual comprehensive maintenance program for the electric units, boilers and distillation units has been completed as per announcement by the commissioned Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy and Assistant Undersecretary for Electric Power and Water Distillation Stations, Khalifa Al-Farij.

According to an Arabic paper, Al-Farij said the program was given a nod to be conducted for 88 electrical units, representing 83 percent of the total units, as well as the necessary maintenance for distillation units for 59 distillation units, equivalent to 100 percent of the total number of distillation units, in addition to maintenance of desalination units with reverse osmosis technology in Shuwaikh station, Al-Zour station and West Doha.

The program will kickstart from September 2022 until the end of May 2023, and will include maintenance of electric power plants and six water distillation plants. The various maintenance procedures are to be administered based on the approved maintenance program and in coordination with all ministry sectors, oil sectors, and contractors to prepare ahead of the summer season in 2023. The program will be carried out to meet the requirements of the electricity and water networks, and in accordance with international standards for quality and efficiency.

According to Al-Farij, the data showed that the highest electricity consumption in the current year reached 16,180 megawatts on 9th of August at a temperature of 49 degrees Celsius, with an increase in electricity consumption of 3.3 percent over last year, which was covered by the ministry through power stations and water distillation.
