The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has spent 121 million dinars during the first half of 2021 on food and construction materials. However, the support for construction material was 61 million dinars or more than 50 percent of the total expenditure.
The data, a copy of which has been obtained by the Al-Anba daily, showed a remarkable growth in spending on construction materials from January until end August 2021, as 5.1 million dinars was spent in January, 5.6 million in February, 12 million in July and 13 million in August in a clear indication of the growth of construction work in the residential sector in recent months.
It is a well-known fact the ministry has subsidized 9 basic food commodities — rice, sugar, lentils, corn oil, powdered milk, milk and baby food (21 types), tomato paste (two types), and frozen chicken (20 types). It also provides subsidies for subsidized construction materials that include 6 core items and 7 elective items.
