Informed sources in the Ministry of Works revealed that the ministry intends to request monetary reinforcement from the Ministry of Finance for a number of health administration contracts affiliated to the maintenance engineering sector, in preparation for the rainy season.

The sources said that most of the contracts related to rain “have either expired; or the budget has run out over the past years, which requires urgent support from the Finance Ministry,” saying “the Ministry of Works needs about 5 million dinars to implement this goal,” reports a local Arabic daily.

The sources pointed to the ministry’s continuous affirmation, during a number of recent meetings related to the follow-up of the rainy season, that it is counting on contracts from the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport, to fill the deficit in the rainy season through its contractors.

In addition, the sources said that the Ministry of Works is still waiting for the approval of the budget for 2022-2023 worth 1.8 billion dinars, according to what has been submitted by the supervisory authorities to spend on its new projects.

The sources pointed out that the share of projects in the mentioned budget is 773 million dinars, compared to 790 million dinars in last year’s budget, and that the concerned sectors are “currently working on the concept of the new budget for the fiscal 2023-2024.”

In the meantime, the sources said the Ministry of Works has begun, since the beginning of last August, to implement a plan to clean rainwater drainage systems in all regions of the country and said work will be completed by the beginning of next November.
