The Ministry of Interior is considering reopening the issuance of visas to the Lebanese community soon, after a hiatus of about three months, against the background of Gulf-Lebanese diplomatic crisis, which was caused by the statements issued to the media by the former Lebanese Information Minister, George Kordahi.
Al-Qabas has learned “The ministry is expected to take a decision next week. The meeting will be attended by senior officials of the residence affairs sector, to discuss the possibility of issuing all types of visas for members of the Lebanese community which were stopped following the Gulf-Lebanese crisis.”
The sources explained the re-issuing of visas will be in phases, and the first phase will include commercial and government visas followed by work visas, and finally, family and tourist visas, after the issue is closed reviewed and scrutinized by the State Security apparatus, similar to the procedure adopted earlier before the suspension of visas.
The sources indicated that “the Lebanese who had valid Kuwait residence permits were not covered by the decision and they were allowed throughout the last period to renew their expired residence permits or transfer to another sponsor, and those who were vacationing outside the country were allowed to return, as long as they had a work permit or to join a family.”
In other news, the sources said the decisions to stop all types of visas for some nationalities are subject to evaluation and study based on political and diplomatic developments.
