The final regulation for electric vehicle chargers in Kuwait has been approved by the Minister of Public Works and Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Ali Al-Mousa. The official said that the regulation was aimed at setting strategies, organizing rules, foundations and standards for the electric car charging system, in preparation for circulating them to the relevant authorities.
According to the Arab daily, the regulation included definitions regarding the application of the provisions of the technical specifications, and the rules governing the use of electric chargers, for example, the AC electric vehicle charger, the DC vehicle charger, and the rechargeable energy storage system, such as the electric power path, vehicle charging system, and other definitions related to the electric vehicle connector, which is a vehicle connecting cable and electric vehicle charging inlet.
Moreover, the regulation clarified that the implementation of the decision will be in two phases, the first starting from the effective date of the decision, implemented until 31st December 2025, while the second phase will start from 1st January 2026 and end on 31st December 2030.
The regulation specified the spots for installing electric vehicle chargers in, such as establishments, institutions and government bodies, commercial establishments, investment establishments, administrative buildings in industrial establishments, fuel filling stations, private housing, highways and main streets. It also organized the installation of electric chargers in private housing and some other sectors, as it allowed private residences to install electric chargers with alternating current, for the electric load capacity of one charger does not exceed 22 kilowatts, while the regulation allowed the installation of chargers for electric vehicles with current AC or DC constant current in other sectors.
