Minister of Public Works Amani Boqmaz said the rapid railway link project between Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a financial, economic and technical feasibility study for the project, and its cost is estimated at $10 million, of which Kuwait has committed 50% of the contract value.

The Minister stated, in response to a question by MP Abdulaziz Al-Saqabi, a copy of which Al-Qabas obtained, that the feasible path for the project has not been determined yet, and that one of its goals is to study the paths that are beneficial to the two countries, and determine the optimal path for this connection.

On another level, the Minister stated that the meeting, which was held in March 2023 in the presence of a number of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, was done in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide embassies with data related to the road network in Kuwait, to help these embassies nominate qualified companies from their respective countries.

The Minister added, in response to another query by MP Abdul Karim Al-Kandari – a copy of which has been obtained by the daily — that 36 companies were nominated through diplomatic channels, and the Ministry has not contracted with any company to maintain roads through direct contracts to date, but rather 10 practices have been proposed.

The minister added, the companies are nominated through diplomatic channels only, without the services of a local agent, and the tendering procedures for these practices have been completed, and to date no contracts have been signed with any of the companies who have submitted bids for the contracts.
