Kuwait has a “pioneering experience” in protecting environment that impacts positively on local, regional and international levels, Minister of State for Economic Affairs Maryam Al-Aqeel said on Wednesday. Al-Aqeel made the statement to KUNA at the end of the 56th session of the executive board of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment. The session reviewed the items of the agenda of the 31st meeting of the Council due on Thursday.
The agenda has 23 items including sustainable development, its goals, the preparatory sessions for the UN General Assembly on the environment and others. Al-Aqeel said that today’s meeting discussed how to deal with climate change issues and the environmental situations in Palestine, Djibouti, Somalia and Sudan as well as their sufferings from environmental issues.
She noted that the conferees discussed the topics of Arab capital for the environment and stressed that Jerusalem should be the capital of the Arab environment until selecting new capital for 2020. Al-Aqeel pointed out that the Council will review a paper from the UAE as part the Arab pioneering experiences in the environment.
