Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basil Al-Sabah said no case of the Covid-19 variant Omicron has been detected in Kuwait and warned against unfounded rumors, saying what has been rumored, “Is certainly not true.”

Meanwhile, Al-Rai quoting Minister Al-Sabah said: “Since the beginning of this crisis, we have been accustomed to transparency and telling the truth. We do not hide anything from the people,” stressing that these are the directives of the political leadership, starting with His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince and His Highness the Prime Minister, so that people are aware of developments and facts unfolding on this front.

Speaking on the sidelines of the opening of the Funaitees Health Center, the Minister reassured that “the vaccination rate in Kuwait is excellent, and  said “if the mutant enters the country, the cases may increase, but I do not think that the number of infections will be the same as was the case before Kuwait began the vaccination drive” but stressed on the importance of continuing to adhere to health protocols, and the need to obtain the vaccine in general and the third booster dose 6 months after taking the second dose in particular.

He pointed out the procedures adopted by the Ministry of Health “are still exceptional, and we are conducting a genetic sequence examination to ensure that this mutant is not present in the country,” calling on returning travelers to take precautionary measures upon arrival in the country, saying “it is better that they force themselves into home quarantine for a few days after which a PCR test should be taken to ensure their safety.”

Despite the assurances of the Minister of Health, precautionary measures are still being taken by various government agencies, as the Civil Service Commission has stressed that government institutions continue to adhere to the application of health requirements in workplaces to keep away the new mutation, based on the recommendation issued by the Corona Emergencies Committee.

While rumors spread about cases of mutated infections at the Jaber Hospital, the consultant of internal medicine, digestive system and liver, Dr. Fahd Al-Najjar, said “those in intensive care are the elderly people who did not receive the third dose, even after 6 months of taking the second dose.”
