German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned her people against negligence toward the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) affirming next months would be difficult for Germans and all Europeans.

The daily newspaper Bild, in its Monday’s edition, quoted the chancellor as expecting drastic rise of daily infection cases and cessation of all “mass activities” until end of February.

She urged the Germans to minimize social mingling, ensure cleanliness and abstain, as much as possible, from joining large assemblies of people.

Merkel has held a series of meetings with other German officials and states’ ministers in a bid to unify regulations against the pandemic in all 16 states of the country.

Germany’s federal system allows difference in health measures from state to another, considering extent of the pandemic spread.

Most European countries are re-enforcing tight constraints against the communicable disease due to alarming hike of the cases.

The epidemic-turned-pandemic first broke out in central China late last year before mushrooming worldwide taking over one million lives of people of diverse nationalities.
