Members of the Constituent Council of Abdullah Al-Salem University will meet Monday with the administration of Kuwait University, as part of a series of meetings with a number of government institutions.
The meeting will address the aspects of cooperation between the Council and the Kuwait University (KU), most notably the university buildings that were evacuated after some colleges moved to their new premises at the Shaddadiah University.
The main purpose of the meetings is to prepare the best formula for the establishment of Abdullah Al-Salem University, according to studies and reports that are being prepared by what it called the ‘work teams’, while the main idea for the establishment of the university is to make it on par with other higher education institutes in the country.
In this context, informed sources told Al-Qabas, that when any university is established, attention is paid to the well-known triangle of tasks — the academic education, scientific research, and community service — pointing out that the Kuwait University, in recent years, has suffered from severe weakness in the area of scientific research and community service for various reasons, most notably insufficient funds for research.
The sources noted that the Abdullah Al-Salem University, too, should be based on the same triangle, but taking into account that it is distinct from Kuwait University, not because of its competition, but for the two institutions to be complementary with each other, under the local higher education system.
The sources stated the Abdullah Al-Salem University will concentrate its efforts on academic performance, research and community service, but will put an emphasis no discipline will be affected by any variables such as the budget and others, stressing that the experience of Kuwait University will be the best evidence for the establishment of Abdullah Al-Salem University to bridge the gaps.
