A medicine to treat vesicular fibrosis and pancreatic cancer contains ingredients from pig pancreatic tissue is legally allowed to be given to religious Kuwaiti residents, confirmed the Ministry of Health, according to the decree from the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. This medicine is available in hospital pharmacies and health centers affiliated with the ministry.
The ministry said in a statement that this drug has been registered in Kuwait since 2015. The order for this medicine was given to the Public Affairs Committee in the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, which confirmed that some pharmaceutical and food products contain gelatin extracted from pork fat, which is legally allowed in the country as while manufacturing these products, thermal and chemical reactions are used which changes the properties from the original material and hence, they violate no religious law.
