A Latam Chilean airline flight was forced to land in Panama after one of the three flight crew members suffered a medical emergency that led to his death.

The company stated that the company’s LA 505 flight, which was on its way from the American city of Miami to the capital, Santiago, with 271 passengers on board, was forced to land in Panama City due to an emergency medical condition for one of the three crew members, reports Al-Rai daily.

The company said that despite the implementation of all necessary procedures, after providing medical assistance on the ground, “unfortunately the pilot passed away,” adding: “We were deeply affected by what happened and we offer our sincere condolences to the pilot’s family. We express our appreciation for his 25-year career and his invaluable contribution, professionalism and dedication.”

The Civil Aviation Authority in Panama reported that it had received an emergency call at dawn Tuesday from the crew of Latam LA 505 flight, asking to enter Panamanian airspace and land at Tocumen International Airport.
