Ambassador of Malaysia H.E. Dato Mohammad Al Selamat hosted a reception last week at the Salwa Sabah Al-Ahmad Hall to celebrate his country’s 62nd National Day and 56th anniversary of Malaysia Day.

A large gathering of diplomats, businessmen, media and Malay nationals attended the celebration to mark these auspicious days.

Addressing the gathering Ambassador Selamat said Malaysia was ranked among the most attractive Emerging Market in Asia as their total trade had reached a record $270 billion dollars.

He also took the opportunity to express his deep appreciation in the bilateral relations between Kuwait and Malaysia pointing out that Malaysia was the first South-East Asian country to open an embassy in Kuwait way back in 1974.

Pointing out that Kuwait – Malaysia relations would continue to progress in various areas of cooperation including trade and economy, business and investments, edu-tourism linkages and capacity building. He said Kuwait continues to remain an important partner for Malaysia in the GCC region.

Ambassador Selamat further added that Malaysia regarded Kuwait as one of the key countries in the Middle East, sharing  so many common traits and voices. Both countries are members of the UN, and also the OIC and shared many identical views and positions at international forums even sharing similar fundamentals of democracy. Malaysia is always very proud of having an excellent relations with Kuwait; a country with huge global reputation and recognition, be it in humanitarian, mediation role and its effective foreign policy.

Kuwait’s Minister of Information and Youth Affairs Mohammed Al Jabri also described relations with Malaysia strong and framed by a number of political, commercial and cultural agreements.
