Researchers at Porto Alegre Hospital in Brazil discovered that laughter therapy is an effective way to relieve the symptoms of heart disease.

The Daily Mail indicates that during this study, doctors analyzed data on 26 patients, with an average age of 64 years, who were diagnosed with ischemic disease.

The doctors divided the patients into two groups, and the first group was shown comedy films and programs for three months. As for members of the second group, they were shown serious documentaries during the same period.

According to the Russia Today website, the results showed that the amount of oxygen that the hearts could pump increased in the first group by 10 percent. They also had improved blood vessel elasticity and decreased inflammatory markers, indicating a reduction in the number of plaques in the blood vessels. This means that laughter therapy can reduce inflammation and the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Researchers believe that the mechanism of the beneficial effect of laughter is that it releases endorphins, which reduce inflammation and help the heart and blood vessels to relax.

In addition, laughter reduces the level of stress hormones, which put a burden on the heart.

It is reported that scientists at Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine discovered that laughter therapy can help relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety.
