Between March 2020 and March 2021 the Kuwaiti labor market lost 199,000 expatriate workers from 15 different job sectors.

According to the labor market system report, a copy of which has been obtained by the Al-Qabas, the real estate sector was the biggest loser (53,000 workers), followed by the wholesale and retail market and bicycle repair sector, which lost nearly 37,000.

With the continued disturbances in recruiting workers from abroad because of the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, no sector has recorded an increase in workers, with the exception of the electricity and air conditioning sectors, whose number increased by 369 workers.

The report says, there isa noticeable decrease in the number of registered workers in the construction sector which accounted for more than 30,000, in addition to the manufacturing sector, which lost 27,000 people.

In the “information and communications, financial and insurance activities, education, arts, entertainment and leisure, human health and social work” sectors the number of employees who left the country was what the labor market was ‘limited’.
