President of Kuwait Directorate General for Civil Aviation Sheikh Salman AlSabah has been elected as First VicePresident of the General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), during its meetings in Montreal, Canada.
The election of Sheikh Salman took place as ICAO General Assembly members were discussing a host of issues like safe integration of drones into airspace management, establishing a globally consistent approach to passengers with disabilities, and implementing modern and convenient measures for passenger identification, Saad AlEnezi, DGCA spokesman, said in a statement to KUNA in Washington D.C.
He added that General Assembly members would also discuss means of implementing an international legal framework to manage unruly passengers, and how to reduce vulnerability of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to harmful interference.
AlEnezi said the meeting would touch upon implementation of a global plan for aviation security as well as UN Security Council Resolution 2309 regarding terrorist threats against international peace and security. Kuwait has been chairing the Arab Organization of Civil Aviation since May 2018.
