The Director-General of the Directorate-General of Narcotics Control Brigadier General Muhammad Qabazard, emphasized that Kuwait is currently engaged in a significant battle against the menace of drugs.

He stressed that this problem isn’t exclusive to Kuwait alone but is a global phenomenon affecting the world. Even the biggest nations are grappling with drug smuggling, but Kuwait has, fortunately, been successful in containing this problem. He noted that there have been very few instances of drug leakage, with the vast majority being effectively controlled, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Qabazard stated that there is no organized crime in Kuwait, as the law applies to all equally without discrimination and highlighted that most attempts at drug smuggling are thwarted, dispelling the notion, often discussed on social media, that influential individuals are immune to legal consequences.

He emphasized that no one is above accountability, as evident from the individuals currently incarcerated. He also explained that Gulf countries are often targeted due to their proximity to drug-producing nations and the wealth of their citizens.

Nevertheless, stringent control measures have left no room for organized crime within Kuwait.

Regarding drug seizure statistics, Qabazard revealed that the department has referred 1,667 cases to the Narcotics Prosecution since the beginning of the year.

Additionally, they have seized approximately 18.857 million psychotropic pills, over 1.5 tons of hashish, 528 kilograms of Lyrica, and 140 kilograms of shaboo. He also pointed out that the rate of heroin abuse has decreased due to tighter controls on its smuggling from production countries and enhanced monitoring of postal parcels arriving from those regions.
