Kuwait’s 13th Municipal Council elections kicked off Saturday, where polling centers are expected to receive voters to elect their candidates.

Thirty-eight candidates including a woman, running in eight constituencies. The government will then appoint six members in the 16-seat Municipal Council.

The elections will be held in 443 committees distributed over 76 schools in eight electoral constituencies. Kuwait Municipality was established in 1930, during which Kuwaiti citizens had a chance to elect their representatives in the Municipal Council, a historic development within Kuwait community.
