The European Commission is expected to issue a statement announcing the initial approval of the file of both Kuwait and Qatar for exemption from the ‘Schengen’ visa to enter Europe.

A local Arabic daily said the Council of the European Union has to vote on the decision, to adopt it and complete other procedures.

The sources indicated that the final decision for exemption requires the unanimous approval of the 27 European Union countries, after which the stage will be set for direct negotiations between Kuwait and the European Union on the exemption agreement, indicating that the mere announcement of the exemption from Schengen does not mean the immediate implementation of the decision, but rather requires a series of procedures.

The sources confirmed that Kuwait’s file is considered complete in all procedural and technical aspects, foremost of which is the electronic passport, which has all the required specifications, in addition to the fact that Kuwait enjoys the support of the majority of the European Union countries in this regard, noting that the expected implementation procedures regarding the exemption will take time, months and even a year.
