After a five-month ban, the first batch of Kuwaiti shrimp was harvested and delivered to Sharq’s fish market, following approval of fishing in the industrial and regional waters. The move resulted in an average sale of shrimp to 65 dinars a basket.

Several fishermen in Al-Jarida said that the shrimp captured on the first day the ban was lifted did not exceed 94 baskets, which falls short as compared to the seasonal catch.

The fishermen emphasized the low number of shrimps auctioned on the first day due to the lack of incentives and limited labor in the fishing industry. They also stressed that despite the increase of fishing activities in the coming days, it is less likely to match last year’s catch.
