The Iraqi Ambassador to Kuwait HE Al-Manhal Al-Safi has disclosed that the tripartite committee tasked with overseeing the issue of Kuwaiti POWs and Missing Persons from other nations convened in Kuwait at the beginning of August.

Representatives from Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, as well as delegates from the United Kingdom, France, and the International Committee of the Red Cross attended the meeting. The ambassador commended the positive and fruitful outcomes of the meeting, reports Al-Qabas daily.

He underscored that this gathering served to affirm the adherence to all measures established in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and memorandums of understanding between the two nations. He also highlighted that the subsequent meeting on the issue of ‘missing individuals’ is scheduled to take place in Baghdad in October.

Meanwhile, the ambassador elaborated that the Iraqi Council of Ministers has issued a directive regarding the issuance of entry visas for Kuwaitis and citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. These visas can be obtained through Iraqi embassies in GCC countries and upon arrival at land, border, and air entry points. This facilitation is effective from August 14 until September 16.

The Iraqi envoy asserted that collaborative efforts between Kuwait and Iraq persist in enhancing their longstanding relations and cooperation across all sectors.

He clarified that the intent behind these provisions is to streamline the entry of visitors during the months of Muharram and Safar, particularly for the purpose of visiting holy shrines and engaging in tourism.

Furthermore, he remarked, “The duration of stay should not exceed a maximum of one month from the date of entry into the Iraqi territory.” He also noted that the collection of vehicle fees for visitors entering through the Safwan and Arar border crossings has been temporarily suspended.
