The Kuwaiti Fishermen’s Union has expressed deep concern about what it perceives as a “public war on local marine products.” These concerns come at a time when the fishing sector faces ongoing challenges, reported Al-Jarida Daily.
One recent issue that has significantly impacted the fishing industry is the reduction in the allocation of gasoline and diesel, which has led to fishing boats being idle for more than half of the past month. The union questioned who should be held responsible for the losses incurred by fishermen and the disruption of Kuwaiti fishing boats at Fahaheel and Sharq stations.
This disruption occurred due to the depletion of the diesel quota allocated to fishermen 13 days before the end of the previous month, resulting in confusion and overcrowding at the stations. The union called for greater support for the local fishing industry and urged relevant parties to listen to complaints and work swiftly to resolve these issues.
