Italian Ambassador H.E, Carlo Balducci extended his gratitude to Kuwait’s authorities for organizing a reception to welcome the modern Italian warship, “Francesco Morosini,” as part of its 5-month-long tour. During a press conference held on board the ship, Ambassador Balducci expressed his pride in visiting this flagship vessel of the Italian Navy.

He highlighted that the ship, equipped with cutting-edge technological advancements, plays an important role in maritime diplomacy by conducting various global tasks to foster sea security and stability.

He also emphasized the strong diplomatic ties between Italy and Kuwait, by sharing common goals and collaboration across various sectors. Kuwait holds Italy as its foremost European trade partner. The visit also served as a poignant reunion for Kuwaiti officers who studied at the Italian Naval Academy in Livorno, further strengthening the countries’ bilateral bonds.

Admiral Mauroa Bianco, Commander of the Italian Naval Force in the region, underscored the EMASoH initiative, a multinational effort aimed at boosting surveillance capabilities in the Gulf region, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman. This initiative, supported by nine European countries within the “Coalition of Will,” contributes to maintaining situational awareness.

Lt. Col. Giovanni Mono, the ship’s commander, lauded the joint exercises between Italy and Kuwait, highlighting the cooperation and tactical maneuvers for both nations. The ship’s multifunctional design enables it to carry out diverse tasks, ranging from military missions to civil protection operations.

“Francesco Morosini” is the second of seven maritime patrol ships as part of Italy’s navy fleet renewal plan. The vessel’s versatility reflects its capacity for both military and civilian operations. Named after Duke Francesco Morosini, the ship symbolizes historical maritime achievements which reflects in the ship’s motto, “an omen of victory coming from the waves”.
