The Head of the Department of Premature Babies at the Maternity Hospital, Dr. Maryam Khadr, announced the opening of an intensive care unit and a clinic for brain and neurosciences for premature babies and newborns in the hospital, which is the first of its kind in Kuwait.

Dr. Khadr said in a statement to a local daily that the intensive care unit includes a neurologist for premature babies and newborns, a preterm consultant, and a preterm infant registrar. She added that the unit will also use the latest devices and techniques for early diagnosis, treatment and intervention.

The official indicated that the hospital will set up one clinic per week, and increase in the near future when moving to the new building of the maternity hospital. She pointed out that the clinic will be vital in the diagnosis, treatment and follow up of brain and nerve diseases of premature and newborn babies.

Dr. Khadr thanked the Ministry of Health and the maternity hospital administration for their continuous support and provision of the needs of premature babies.
