His Highness the Deputy Amir, Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad, affirmed that it has become imperative for those concerned with the media in the world, especially in the Arab countries, to intensify their efforts to confront rumors, confront their dangers, and develop a strategy to deal with social media that publish incorrect news and events that may lead to sedition between individuals, sometimes extending to rivalries and conflicts between peoples and countries.
This came during His Highness’s reception, at Bayan Palace yesterday, of the Arab information ministers participating in the meetings of the 98th session of the Standing Committee for Arab Media and the 16th regular session of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, on the occasion of their convening in Kuwait, reports Al-Jarida daily.
His Highness made it clear that the media has a duty to raise the necessary awareness about terrorism, especially among young people, and develop their awareness to confront any destructive ideas that target their minds and destinies, “in light of false information.”
He added that the media has become the most important carrier of civilizations and cultures and the exchange of experiences between peoples, “Nations rise in the media, and the media must have credibility, realism, flexibility, and keeping pace with the rapid technological development, in light of the rapid spread of means of communication.”
His Highness Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad renewed Kuwait’s full and serious support for everything that would lead to a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with international legitimacy, and in a way that guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, expressing his appreciation to the media ministers of Arab and Gulf countries for putting the Palestinian cause and the fight against terrorism among the priorities of their meetings, stressing the importance of concerted efforts to highlight the Palestinian cause at the Arab and international levels and to make the media discourse a means of addressing and defending it.
