In another move to limit public gatherings amidst coronavirus fears, Kuwaiti municipal authorities have allowed only relatives of the deceased to enter cemeteries, an official revealed. Head of the Kuwait Municipality’s Funeral Affairs Directorate Faisal Al Awadi emphasized that the burial time now starts from 8am until 3pm, and the burial process has to begin upon arrival at the cemetery. Al Awadi added that no one is allowed to escort the coffin inside the hearse vehicle.

 “These measures must be complied with and applied for the well-being and safety of mourners,” he said.

Kuwait authorities has begun enforcing a range of stringent measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus. A curfew was enforced on Sunday from 5pm to 4am, and the airport was shut down, except for special flights, while government employees were given holidays, or asked to work from home, and all educational institutions were shut until August.

Authorities have also ordered the shutdown of commercial complexes, shopping malls and public markets, while supermarkets, grocery stores and other food supply outlets.
