Kuwait on Saturday said its daily tally of coronavirus infections jumped by 1,198 to take the total to 227,178, while nine fatalities over the past 24 hours raised its death toll from the outbreak to 1,279.

The number of people hospitalized with the virus currently stands at 14,539, with 250 of them in intensive care units, according to health ministry spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad.

He revealed that some 7,729 swab tests were conducted over the last day out of a total of 2,022,843, adding that the positive case to test ratio amounted to 15.5 percent over the past 24 hours, government data showed.

The ministry had earlier reported that some 1,336 more people had been cured from the virus over the past day, raising the total of those to have overcome the disease to 211,360, while the overall recovery rate stood at 93 percent.

He went on to urge nationals and expatriates alike that abiding by health precautions, mainly, following social distancing rules, is the only way to halt the spread of the virus.
