The first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to immunize against the coronavirus arrived at Kuwait Airport a short while ago. The Minister of Health, Sheikh Dr. Basil Al-Sabah, announced that the vaccination process will begin at the end of this week, Al Qabas daily reported.

He explained the priority of the target groups for Covid-19 vaccination are in four stages, the first one includes all health care providers, those in the age group older than 65 years old, and workers in the first grades, and the remaining stages include all individuals and groups of society.

He stated that the number of people who made an appointment online here on the moh website: https://cov19vaccine.moh.gov.kw/SPCMS/CVD_19_Vaccine_Registration.aspx to receive the vaccine has reached 73,700,000 people so far, with number of registers increasing continuously.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) authorised the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus drug for the EU’s nearly 448 million inhabitants after it went into circulation in the UK and the US.

The agency said the drug had demonstrated an efficacy of 95% and could be used in people aged 16 and over. The vaccine is given as two injections, 21 days apart, with the second dose being a booster. Immunity begins to kick in after the first dose but reaches its full effect seven days after the second dose.
