Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) is seeking to reclaim KD 55 million (USD 181.5 million), some of which it earns for using some of its land plots and some had been embezzled by convicts.

Sheikh Yousef Abdullah Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, the authority director-general, said in a statement on Wednesday the authority had addressed the prosecution for criminal execution and the execution general directorate at the Ministry of Justice to take legal action in this respect.

He urged executive authorities to help the ports authority reclaim the uncollected funds. A court had ruled that a company must pay KD 20 million (USD 66 million) for using a 270,000 sq m plot of land for the authority at the storage zone at Mina Al-Doha.

The authority had also won a legal case to collect KD 35 million from a group of persons, who were sentenced between seven to 16 years and fined KD 70 million (USD 230 million) for embezzling the fund.
