Kuwait Municipality said on Saturday it shut 147 commercial stores in the province of Hawally in April for breaching preventive precautions against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The municipality said in a statement that its inspectors addressed 235 warnings against owners of grocery stores, issued various tickets against restaurants, hairdressing stores, health clubs, entertainment halls and wedding halls.
It also reported sanitizing 66,000 containers, abandoned vehicles and penalized law-breaking vendors. There were other tasks, namely cutting power to realty units.
Kuwait is observing nearly three weeks of total lockdown as of Sunday afternoon. People will be allowed to venture out for exercise for two hours provided they wear medical masks and observe social distancing.
