Data from the V-DEM Institute, (a specialized body to determine the status of democracies globally) remarked on Kuwait’s democratic progress. The 2020 report placed Kuwait on the rank 106 in the world amongst 179 countries of the world. Earlier in 2019 as it was ranked 111.

Now, Kuwait occupies second place as a democracy in the Arab world for the first time after Tunisia, which is ranked 41 in the world, Al Qabas daily reported.

The democracies of the world are evaluated based on 71 factors such as- freedom of expression, freedom to join political parties or currents, and the government’s protection of freedoms, among others.
