Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kuwaiti Society for National Fraternity, activist in the field of human rights, Dr. Bibi Ashour, said Kuwait participated in a survey study with the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries on the problem of violence and the most prominent causes and proposed solutions.

Dr Ashour told a local Arabic daily, “The step of studying the problem of domestic violence is to support the main axis of development plans in the GCC countries, in which Kuwait participates, which is represented in developing social capital, and enhancing security and stability for all segments of society, as it tops the priorities of government programs, and keenness to enhance the status and cohesion of the family and to strengthen the role of women in society.

She stressed that the aim of the study is to come up with a set of recommendations that enable the rehabilitation of victims of domestic violence and their reintegration into society, the adoption of national strategies and the enactment of legislation and regulations necessary to combat violence, and the constant endeavor to spread societal awareness of the seriousness of its effects and repercussions on the victim and other family members.

She indicated that it is noticeable that adults practice the most types of domestic violence against women, children and even the elderly.
