Kuwait regressed in the survey conducted by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, for the year 2022, to measure the development of e-government.
It ranked fifth in the Gulf and 61st globally, recording 0.7484 points in the development index for the year 2022 although in previous survey within the category of countries it had ranked very high.
The survey assesses the development of e-government among 193 countries in the world according to the e-government development index, which is a quantitative indicator consisting of 3 sub-indicators, the online service index, the communications infrastructure index, and the human capital index.
Each country’s performance is categorized into 4 boxes, very high, high, medium and low, and the global average rating is 0.6102.
On the other hand the report ranked 3 Arab countries within the “very high” e-government development index for the year 2022. They are the UAE 13th globally, Saudi Arabia 31st globally, and Oman 50th globally.
The new study showed a greater global trend to rely on digital governments, with the global average value of the e-government development index increasing from 0.5988 in 2020 to 0.6102 in 2022 (the average rate is 0.6102).
Europe remained at the forefront of the e-government development index with an index of 0.8305, followed by Asia (0.6493), and then the Americas (0.6438).
The list of the best ranked countries in e-government development included: Denmark, Finland, Korea, New Zealand, Sweden, Iceland, Australia, Estonia, the Netherlands, America, Britain, Singapore, the UAE, Japan and Malta.
