In anticipation of high weather temperatures forecasted by the Meteorological Department for early August, the Ministry of Electricity is facing a critical two-week period.

During this time, the Al-Jarida daily quoting Ministry of Electricity and Water sources said, the power consumption is expected to reach unprecedented levels, leading the Ministry to call upon consumers to adopt a rationalization policy to mitigate peak season consumption and cope with the heat.

According to reliable sources within the electricity sector, the primary goal is to prevent emergency power outages caused by the surge in demand.

The MEW sources added, each increase in temperature corresponds to a rise in electricity demand by over 200 megawatts. Despite the expected consumption not exceeding 16,700 megawatts, the production capacity exceeds 18,000 megawatts, providing some assurance that the situation can be managed effectively.

It is worth noting that the highest load recorded during the current summer was 16,370 megawatts, indicating that the expected peak in August should be manageable. The Ministry anticipates the peak period to last until August 15.

The appeal to reduce electricity consumption aims to conserve fuel used in power production and alleviate the costs and burdens associated with annual maintenance of power production units. By responsibly managing energy usage during this critical time, both consumers and the electricity grid can benefit.
