The Kuwaiti Cabinet Monday expressed confidence that world leaders partaking in the COP27 being held in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh resort would find solutions to face climate change and protect the earth and nature.

This came during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at Seif Palace, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Barak Ali Al-Shetan said following the meeting.

The Cabinet said that the repercussions of climate change threaten the earth, hoping for solution to environmental problems.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet was briefed by Al-Shitan, who doubles as Acting Foreign Minister, on the results of His Highness the Amir’s representative, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s participation in the Arab Summit hosted by Algeria last Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Cabinet lauded the positive efforts made by His Highness the Amir’s representative, His Highness the Crown Prince, and the leaders and heads of the Arab delegations that participated in the summit which had fruitful results aimed at achieving the Arab solidarity and backing the Arabs’ issues amid the developments of the current situation.

The Cabinet further considered the recommendation of the follow-up committee for implementing major development projects on the railway project in Kuwait, and decided to assign the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation to complete its efforts on the project.

The Cabinet was informed about the committee’s recommendation on the Ministry of Health’s request regarding issuing a decree from the Cabinet to deliver a building at the (T2) at Kuwait Airport to establish medical and preventive laboratories at the new airport.The Cabinet decided to task the ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, to work on this step.

Moreover, the Cabinet discussed the recommendation of the legal affairs committee’s meeting on a draft resolution on amending the decree No. 57 issued in 2022 on determining authority of the Ministry of Electricity and Water that aimed at allowing the ministry to buy electricity and water from several resources.

The Cabinet was also informed about the committee’s recommendation on the bill regarding approving a cultural and art deal between Kuwait and the Republic of Korea.

The Cabinet decided to approve the two bills and referred them to His Highness the Amir. In addition, the Cabinet reviewed the annual report on following the government performance in 2021, and was briefed on a presentation made by head of the Government Performance Follow- Up Agency Sheikh Ahmad Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The Cabinet extolled the efforts made in the report and decided to task all ministries and government bodies and the agency with addressing the notes and implementing the report’s recommendations. The ministers reviewed the second report of the committee of follow-up public fund in 2022,which includes data on public funds issues and the responses of ministries and government institutions to these issues and their outcome before the competent authorities.

The Cabinet assigned Minister of Justice and Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs to refer it to the National Assembly. Furthermore, the Cabinet discussed the political affairs in light of the current developments on both Arab and international arenas.

The Cabinet expressed Kuwait’s condemnation and denunciation of an assassination attempt at former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, stressing Kuwait’s principled and firm stance which rejects terrorism and violence. The Cabinet also stressed Kuwait’s support to Pakistan in steps it takes to maintain its stability and security.

The Cabinet voiced Kuwait’s welcome to the peace agreement reached by the government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front to end the conflict between the two parties, leading up to lasting peace in Ethiopia.

It expressed hope that the parties to the agreement would stick to it, praising its contents that allow relief and humanitarian organizations to provide relief aid and protect their workers. – KUNA
