The world got its 69th Miss Universe in Mexico’s Andrea Meza on Monday. The event held in Florida saw Kuwait-born India’s Adline Castelino coming in at the fourth spot.
The 22-year-old, who traces her roots to Udupi in Karnataka, won Miss Diva 2020 making her India’s representative at Miss Universe, this year.
Castelino was born in Kuwait City on May 21, 1998, to Mangalorean Catholic parents Alphonse and Meera Castellino. While in Kuwait, Castelino was a student at the Indian Central School.
She moved to Mumbai when she was 15 for high school and eventually did her higher studies there and graduated from Wilson College with a degree in Business Administration.
Apart from walking the ramp, Adline Castelino is also involved in social work and initiatives. Castelino has worked with welfare organization ‘Vikas Sahayog Pratishthan’ (VSP), which provides “financial, technical and institutional support to the rural poor, landless or marginal farmers, distressed farmers and women through strategically designed interventions.”
Castelino also did her part during the COVID-19 lockdown in India 2020, reportedly providing food, face masks, and other essentials to Desire Society, which helps children infected with HIV.
