Kuwait blocked 139 Internet websites of citizens and residents in 2021 for violating public morals or for involvement in fraud, violating property rights, privacy and electronic phishing.

Official figures issued by the Communications and Information Technology Commission shows the authority received and issued 323 requests and decisions to block or unblock websites during the past year, including 140 requests to block websites, while 139 actual websites were blocked during the year and it also received requests to lift the block on 23 websites and has effectively lifted the ban on 21 websites, reports a local Arabic daily.

The daily quoting sources pointed out 58% of the measures taken by the commission regarding blocking or lifting the block on websites in Kuwait took place between July and September end of 2021. During the three months, 80 websites were blocked out of the total websites that were blocked during the whole year.
