Kuwait has started rolling out booster shots of COVID-19 vaccines to three groups of the population as part of efforts aiming to provide maximum protection to more vulnerable people.

Based on the results of relevant studies, and in order to mitigate the high risks of new COVID-19 variants, the ministry decided to provide the booster doses, Abdullah Al-Sanad said in a statement.

The third jabs will be given to three groups at the moment, namely those aged over 60 with underlying health conditions, those most vulnerable to infection risks such as front-line workers, and the immunocompromised people, he noted.

Citizens and residents will make their appointments this week, and the boosters can be given as long as it has been at least six months after completion of two doses, he said.

People aged over 60, healthcare workers and those with weakened immune systems will be the recipients of a third dose of a COVID vaccine at least six months after they had their second shot, said a health ministry statement, citing relevant data.

Those eligible for the booster will get their appointment details via text messages, the statement highlighted, adding that COVID booster shots will be made available to other groups shortly.
