The Criminal court has sentenced an Egyptian man to seven years in prison and deportation after serving the term for hacking the country’s official news agency KUNA and publishing fake news.

The court found him guilty of hacking the account of the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and broadcasting false news about the withdrawal of US forces from Kuwait and attributing the news to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence, an Arabic daily reported.

Last January, KUNA denied the news and said its website had been hacked. The defendant, whose name or age was not disclosed, was arrested in February and charged with jeopardizing state security.
